Description
Smartphones are the main source of traffic in the mobile broadband networks. This chapter first analyses the traffic patterns created by smartphones and focuses on the network optimization for the typical smartphone applications. It then explains the main learnings about the traffic patterns from live long‐term evolution (LTE) networks. Next, the chapter illustrates the optimization of smartphone power consumption with carrier aggregation (CA) and with discontinuous reception. It presents the signalling traffic from smartphones with different operating systems (OSs) and applications. The chapter considers messaging and streaming application optimization. A number of different voice solutions are tested in terms of power consumption and bandwidth requirements. Finally, the chapter presents solutions and trends in optimizing smartphone power consumption in three domains: trends in smartphone battery capacity …
