This chapter synthesises theoretical and empirical contributions to the academic literature about older men, both to establish and enrich knowledge of the complexities of the gendered and diverse lives of older and ageing men and to make a case for the value of age and ageing studies for ensuring developments in masculinities studies. Developments in the field of men and masculinities and ageing that originally rendered older men less visible are charted, followed by research about older men as men. Three key empirical arenas are examined; representations of older men; their health and social and sexual relationships; and their geographies.
