Description
Different Xreality (XR) technology experiences including Virtual Reality (VR), Augmented Reality (AR), and Mixed Reality (MR) have been found to affect the perceptions, emotions, feelings and behavioural intentions of tourists in decision-making step. However, little is known about the determinants and consequences of different kinds of XR tourism experiences and level of their effectiveness. This working paper draws from a broader PhD, which focused on the dimensions and process of XR technology experience for tourists. The tourists were assigned to experience a tour to a destination using an XR technology device focusing on finding the induced perceptions, emotions, feelings and their behavioural intentions towards the destination. During a pilot study, it was found that perceptions such as “authenticity” and feelings like the sense of presence or “feeling of being there” differs significantly experiencing different kinds of XR technologies. Furthermore, this could notably affect other dimensions of these technology experiences such as their behavioural intentions to the destination. This brought a basis for this working paper, which tries to explore the effectiveness of different kinds XR tourism experience on tourists’ behaviour.
