Across modern economies, private businesses, public sector bodies and even charities are confronted by pressures that lead them to undertake innovations. These pressures include competition, consumer demand and ongoing change in costs of labour, resources, available technologies and regulations. They lead organizations to seek innovation in products, processes, marketing, organizational structures and more (cf. entries on innovation in Section 3.1). Innovation is often undertaken to address business problems–though innovations can also be ways of seizing business opportunities.
