The type of intervention has often been found to be less important than the mere fact that some type of intervention was provided. Yet, even today, many patients are not provided with any type of structured intervention aimed at supporting them in coping with stressful procedures. This does not mean that they are not provided with any preparation at all: on the contrary, preparation always takes place because providers always give some information and patients always ask some questions (and if unanswered in full, they often fill in the information from less reliable sources).
