Description
Corrosion protection performance of leaf extracts from Stylosanthes gracilis on 304 L steel in H2SO4 solution was evaluated using weight loss, electrochemical and surface morphological examinations. Results obtained indicate that the extracts displayed good protection against corrosion of 304 L in H2SO4. From thermodynamics and adsorption considerations the extracts acted as a mixed-type inhibitor at an optimum concentration of 1.2 g/l. The adsorption of the extract on 304 L stainless steel surface was found to be endothermic and obeyed the Langmuir adsorption isotherm. The protection performance of the extract was confirmed through scanning electron microscopy examinations which revealed a lower population density and degree of pitting corrosion on the specimen immersed in inhibited sulfuric acid as compared to the uninhibited specimens which were massively decorated with pits of various …
