I. Introduction ultidisciplinary Design Optimization (MDO) is becoming popular in the aircraft industry. Because of the emergence of innovative aircraft design concepts, the aircraft design using the empirical structural and aerodynamic equations based on databases obtained from past experience may not be reliable for a non-conventional aircraft structure. In the aircraft optimization, reducing structural weight is often one of the prime important objectives, while various constraints in multiple disciplines, such as structure, aerodynamics and aeroelasticity, should be imposed on the aircraft. Therefore, engineers need optimization tools to incorporate the multidisciplinary constraints using appropriate fidelity during the early stages of concept design.
