Description
This paper investigates the social contribution of the installation of solar water heaters in a subsidized housing project. The Sustainable Urban Livelihood Approach provides an analytical framework for the development of suitable indicators of social change in the context of renewable energies and energy poverty. Data collected from paired household surveys and qualitative information show that the provision of a constant, cheap source of heated water contributed positively to the alleviation of energy poverty, while information, participation, education and follow-up are crucial elements for the sustainability of such projects.
