Description
Online learning is now a key feature in the adult education delivery. Despite the numerous benefits, one of the main challenges is that learners feel socially isolated in the online learning space. There is a pressing need to incorporate social connectedness for better engagement that will enhance the learning experience. Social connectedness comprises the concepts of connectedness, belongingness, relatedness and intersubjectivity. The purpose of the study presented here was to explore factors that enhance social connectedness in the online learning environment for adults in Singapore. Data were collected from in-depth interviews with adult educators and an examination of artefacts they used when conducting online classes.
