The editors of Oceania elicited this series of reviews of White Nation not only because it represents a new way of analysing Australian cultural dynamics, but also because it is a style of anthropology (some would want to name it cultural studies) which has caught the public imagination. Most of the reviewers commented on the analysis, referring to its method and ethnographic base only in passing. Readers should also note that, rather than imposing editorial consistency on the capitalisation of White/white, the editors have let the authors' different practices remain as a testament to conceptual complexity.
