Description
At the 2009 RGS-IBG Annual International Conference, held in Manchester, the authors co-convened a thematic session on Alternative Travel Futures, aiming to gather in one place a diverse set of academics and others to focus on transport and mobility’s future in an increasingly challenging global environment, with particular reference to climate and energy issues. The global context for transport is one in which climate change and greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions are key policy drivers, but there are other major factors to be considered such as peak oil and energy security. The policy and academic communities for these agendas are largely separate, but there is synergy between these agendas that should be presented more coherently to stakeholders and influencers.
