In trials at Ibadan, Nigeria, with a germplasm collection (47 accessions) from Costa Rica, significant variation was found between accessions for early vigour and mulch yield. The 4 highest yielding accessions produced 37% more mulch than local provenances. Greatest mulch yield occurred at a planting density of 10/m in the rows, and % establishment of seedlings was reduced with >12/m.
