Hypermedia is one of the most recent tools for education. Generally speaking, hypermedia offers a multimedia information environment, supports non-linear access to information, provides interaction communication, and integrates the various information formats. HyperCard, HyperStudio, and Toolbook are all popular educational hypermedia software; in addition, hypermedia already involves into the Internet and World Wide Web (Web) systems. The purpose of this paper is to discuss the role of hypermedia-based environment in teaching and learning. The relationship between hypermedia and constructivism will be analyzed at first. Then the paper will present the features of hypermedia and learning theories. After that, the advantages and limitations of hypermedia-based learning that are based on the Internet and web systems will be discussed in the last part.
