Description
For several decades, the Rural Sociological Society has sponsored an edited decennial volume that examines policy and research issues on rural America. Conner Bailey, Leif Jensen, and Elizabeth Ransom indicate that Rural America in a Globalizing World: Problems and Prospects for the 2010s is the fourth decennial volume, but I believe there were actually two earlier volumes by James Copp (1964) and Thomas Ford (1978), for a total of six. These volumes have played an important role in defining the research agenda for rural sociologists and informing policy makers about issues in rural America. The editors have identified two key themes for this volume: the impacts of globalization and neoliberalism on the quality of life in rural areas.
