As of January 1, 2022, it had been estimated that there were a total of 18,060,100 cancer survivors in the United States. Sixty-seven percent of these survivors are 65 yrs or older with a majority diagnosed 5 or more years ago. 1 Despite improved prevention strategies and treatment protocols, it has been predicted that the annual number of cancer cases will increase by nearly 50% by 2050 because of the growth and aging of the population. 2 It has been well documented that cancer survivors are at high risk for functional impairments related to short-, long-term, and late effects from cancer and cancer treatment. A recent systematic review evaluating disability among people with cancer noted that the prevalence of physical and cognitive impairments ranged from 30.2% to 74.5%, upper body impairment from 60.0% to 94.7%, and fatigue at 78.7%. 3 In addition, the older population will be at risk for accumulating …
