Description
The availability of low-complexity signal components, easing the acquisition process and supporting the derivation of a fast timeto-first-fix, enables the reduction of the energy required to perform a first fix by the receiver, which is a very relevant aspect for most of the GNSS receivers. This paper discusses the acquisition and fast time ambiguity resolution based on Quasi-Pilot (QP) signal design options being considered in the context of Galileo signal evolution activities. The paper shows that some of the QP design options considered enable the acquisition, fast time retrieval and derivation of a position fix in less than 250 ms in urban conditions, when assistance data is available. Additionally, the results from a test campaign performed with Galileo FOC satellites transmitting a pilot signal in E5 (referred to as G1 E5 QP) are presented.
