Anonymous organizational communication refers to any communication creating, maintaining, or otherwise relevant to the organization where the message source is not named. This anonymity is a matter of degree shaped primarily by the extent to which a source is perceived as unknown and unspecified (the source cannot be limited to some specific subset of possible communicators). Scholarship points to a wide range of activities where anonymity may be found in organizations – including feedback, reporting of wrongdoing, and efforts by organizations and their members to conceal their identity from various audiences. In general, it may be used for constructive and destructive purposes.
