Description
Abstract Plain Language Summary: The Journal of Geophysical Research‐Biogeosciences focuses on the interactions between biology, hydrology, geology, chemistry, and physics within the Earth system. Here, we are presenting a brief early history of the journal and evolution of the topics and papers published over the past 20 years. We present an updated aims and scope which now explicitly considers method and data articles. Key Points: JGR: Biogeosciences has published 3,000 articles on integrating biological, chemical, and physical properties across ecosystemsNew methodologies, new approaches, big datasets, monitoring, and new ways of thinking are important for the biogeosciencesWe are updating our aims and scope to formalize biogeosciences methods and data articles in the journal
