In a rccent issue of Humart Biology, Hanna and Washburn (’53) have added another article to a series dealing with the scx determination of the pelvis in various racial groups (see also Washburn,’48,’49). This time the Eskimos, as represented in the U. S. National Museum collections, are the subject of study. Of this group of pelves, it is asserted that... there are very few cases which are interrnediatc in character, and... the sorting... which is based only on the ischium-pubis index and the sciatic notch, separates over 95% of the total series into two very distinct groups”(p. 25). However, instead of showing the distribution of these features separately, as in previous articles, the authors have combined them in a scattergram. Since the resulting distribution is decidedly bimodal, the authors have inserted a diagonal line to show how they would divide males and females without leaving any in doubt. As a check on the …
