Description
Florida’s susceptibility to hurricanes stimulates the need for effective hurricane response. The role of UF/IFAS Extension in hurricane response is disaster preparedness, and information dissemination and communication. Ideally, Extension agents should be ready to engage in hurricane response. During the 2004 hurricanes, agents were unprepared to deal with their professional disaster responsibilities. Agents personally affected by the disaster were unable to address clients’ needs.
