Description
This study investigated the relationship between student effort and student test scores on a low stakes general education test. Students (n= 1,118) at four institutions of higher education were included in the study if they completed all four subject subtests (math, science, social studies, English) of the CollegeBASE exam, and also reported their GPA and ACT exam scores. CBASE is a low stakes test for the students because no consequences are linked with their scores. Students reported giving approximately 60% to 70% effort on the test. Correlations between effort and test scores were strongest for ratings of the same subject area, for example, effort for science with test scores for science. Overall effort correlated r=. 47 with overall test performance.
