Description
In Sulawesi since colonial era commercial utilization of ebony (Diospyros celebican Bakh.) is attractive due to the strong foreign market. Unsustainable harvesting caused a major concern over this high value timber species that now it is considered as threaten species. Conservation efforts and need to restore the remaning forest areas of ebony has been emphasized. It has been urged that both reforestation through plantation project and providing protected area by department of forestry could ensure timber yield sustainability of ebony. On the other hand community involvement could be excellent system for ebony conservation and providing timber sources in sustainable ways.
