Description
In 1988, Getz and Frisby stressed the role of communication and understanding in the effectiveness of organizers' involvement with community run festivals. Getz (2000a) further stated that management understanding is vital to the success of events, and, later, that misunderstanding is central to their failure (2000b). Gursoy, Kim & Usyal (2004) reflected that the growth of festivals and events has encouraged a rise in the professionalism of their management, inclusive of a rising awareness of the social, environmental and economic impacts associated with these actions. Moreover the growth in festivals, which are so dependent on stakeholder relationships, has led to researchers to focus more on inter-organizational relationships and network structures (Stokes, 2006).
