Concerned about a growing rate of gun violence, the City of Durham, NC, contracted with ShotSpotter (SS) in 2022 to pilot the technology in a three-square-mile area of the city (2.7% of the city’s land area) with high rates of violence. The SS installation was in operation for 12 months beginning December 15, 2022. The Durham Police Department (DPD) arranged an arms-length evaluation.
