Description
When we wrote the editorial essay in the first issue of Organization Science (Daft and Lewin 1990), we stated that our mission in launching the journal was to broaden the boundaries of inquiry into organizations, and to loosen the straitjacket of acceptable empirical research as a means to opening our field to new ideas. We believed that Organization Science could provide a forum for an interdisciplinary research base and for research that is informed by the problems of practice. Our focus was on the academic field of organization studies and how it could be broadened and enriched from within. We do believe that Organization Science has helped broaden the field of organization studies, largely through creating an editorial structure that encourages multiple perspectives and diverse methods in published articles.
