Description
This chapter builds on the previous chapter by extending the analysis developed there to an examination of the connections among racism, immigration, and globalization. It presents a curriculum design to help participants understand how migrants to the United States have been received at different points in our history, and the role that race and racism have played in US immigration policy and the immigrant experience, both historically and in the present. Here, we note the influence of globalization and the impact of American economic and foreign policy, on migration and racial formations in the United States. Ideally, the Overview: Twenty-First Century Racism, Chapter 6, and this chapter should be used together in sequence because they build upon and reinforce each other.
