Description
Assessment as learning is a tool to support student learning by providing students with timely feedback related to disciplinary and personal and professional development. In CBL, several questions related to assessment design and implementation remain to date unanswered by practitioners and researchers. Thus, the aim of this roundtable is to discuss the opportunities and challenges of assessment as learning in CBL with the community of researchers and practitioners and find possible solutions to support its implementation. The topics to be addressed during the roundtable are relevant to reported tensions of assessment in CBL regarding (1) assessment focused on the end-product versus the process,(2) the implementation of assessment focused on individual students versus the team, and (3) the use of formative versus summative forms of assessment. Experienced facilitators will guide the discussion and ensure the active participation of attendants, who will be invited to share their experiences, struggles, and identify areas and opportunities for implementing assessment as learning within CBL. The expected outcome of this roundtable is a summary of generalizable lessons learned and agreements to form a network of interested researchers and practitioners on this topic to further our collaboration.
