Description
In this chapter, we provide a primer on the social psychological study of power and capture emerging themes that we think are likely to develop into the next wave of research on power. To accomplish this objective, we begin the chapter by offering a clear definition of power. We then pay homage to the prior waves of power research by discussing the antecedents (in the form of manipulations and measures) and consequences that bracket the psychological experience of power as well as critical moderators. Subsequently, we discuss theories about how power guides and directs behavior. We close by setting an agenda for future research.
