Description
Population distribution of planning areas helps in making urban development decisions. Two important criteria are:“where do people live?” and “where do they work?” Almost every city has statistics about where people live. But conclusive information about where people work is hard to get. In this paper we propose methods on finding home and workplaces using some heuristics. Validation of home and workplace prediction is not straight forward. We validate our methods using correlation with external data. Multiple correlations between different statistics are performed to ensure reliability. We implemented an interactive system that shows:(a) distribution of workplaces for people living in any planning area,(b) distribution of home for people working in any planning area,(c) distribution of home for people working in manufacturing sector in any planning area, and (d) distribution of people working in manufacturing sector in different planning areas based on where they live. Our interactive GUI can determine various statistics that help in making decisions about urban development. For example, it can determine planning areas that are balanced in terms of home and workplaces.
