Description
In pot experiments and field trials with 4 cotton cultivars, subjecting plants to soil moisture stress during the pre-flowering period by withholding irrigation till they showed symptoms of permanent wilting during the early morning increased the number of flowers and bolls/plant and seed-cotton yield, compared with normal water supply; moisture stress had no adverse effect on percentage of boll set. Imposition of moisture stress during the post-flowering period decreased yield.
