Author's response to the comments made by Wendy Hollway (see record 2005-15560-004), Elliot G. Mishler (see record 2005-15560-005), and JA Smith (see record 2005-15560-003) on the original article entitled" Qualitative interviews in psychology: Problems and possibilities"(see record 2005-15560-002). One of our key proposals was that interviews should be taken seriously as a research object. Conversation analysis (CA) and discursive psychology (DP) should be used to help explicate the different actions that happen in interviews. This has clearly caused some (perhaps understandable) confusion. Let us be very clear. We were not suggesting that interview researchers should use conversation analysis and discursive psychology to analyse interviews.
