In a world where anthropogenic led climate change is drastically altering the geological-social-economic and political status quo, sustainable development (SD) has become the main principle of the modern development strategies. In the contemporary world, the concept of SD is applicable to almost all socio-economic entities including the micro, small and medium enterprises (MSME). In this context, the question-whether the MSMEs are the inhibitors or facilitators of SD deserves scrutiny. MSMEs, particularly in the developing countries like India, contribute to the process of SD by generating employment opportunities at the grass-root that help alleviate poverty. However, there are instances when the goals of SD are forfeited by the MSMEs in favour of survival and/or various other social and psychological pressures. Also, ignorance makes MSMEs oblivious to the goals of SD.
