Notes on Recent Elections 95 constituency intact. Although their electoral bases do not seem to overlap, eventually the RP and the DYP may have to target the same constituencies for fresh electoral support. Especially in the small industrialist and merchant communities of Anatolian provinces are candidates for serious competition between the two partners. The RP should deliver traditional patronage rewards to its constituencies while at the same time trying not to alienate significant portions of the centre-right voters for which the ANAP and the DYP are far from being out-competed. In short, Turkish politics seem to have entered a new phase of increasing religious consciousness and rising demands for responsive and accountable politics.
