- 1.1. A report of two patients who developed anemia following extensive resection of the intestines is presented.
- 2.2. A review of the literature has been made, and theories regarding the etiologic basis for hyperchromic macrocytic anemia are discussed chronologically.
- 3.3. Extensive resections of the small intestine were performed in a series of experimental animals in an attempt to reproduce the hyperchromic macrocytic anemia observed in clinical patients following similar operative procedures.
