This paper is observing and describing the tremendous development of gated communities on the desert plateaus near Cairo. It's presenting its genesis, and offers some keys to understand the sense of this totally new way of life in Egypt. Gated communities are understood as an analyzing tool of neoliberal reform in the Nile valley.
