Description
Most studies of this process of pre-independence ‘Indianisation’and organisational innovation, as Vipul Dutta points out, have focused on the role of the elite military academies at Sandhurst and the IMA. These academies, moreover, have been seen as a grudging and limited imperial response to post-1919 nationalist political pressure. Dutta’s aim, in this well-researched study based largely on official records in India and the UK, is to revise this account in several important ways.
