Description
The three studies conducted on health literacy, eHealth literacy, Internet use and social networks provide a unique opportunity to bring together these concepts in order to better understand Internet use for health purposes among Israeli citizens, both in terms of skills (“second digital divide”) and benefit-extraction (“third digital divide”).
Most Israelis use the Internet (73.3%), though at a lower rate than the European average (80%). Users tend to be younger, more men and Jewish, with higher educational attainment and perceived health. Less demographic differences were found for health-related Internet use, where only age, education and perceived health were associated with use. Israelis tend to engage more in Web 1.0 (consuming content) than in Web 2.0 activities (generating content).
