Description
We model the cost of Filterless Optical Networks (FONs) and compare FONs with state-of-the-art Wavelength-Switched Optical Networks (WSON) in core and metro-aggregation networks considering traffic evolution over a multi-year time period. Results show that, due to the energy savings allowed by passive devices, FONs achieve up to 4-6% cost savings with respect to WSON.
