Description
Methods.-The C. laredoensis complex consists of two separate clonal complexes (= lineages) provisionally designated LAR-A [= C. laredoen-sis described by McKinney et al.,(1973)] and LAR-B following Walker (1986).[Wright (1993) recommends referring to LAR-A as the species C. laredoensis and naming LAR-B as a separate species; I retain the informal" clonal complex" designations pending resolution of the nomenclatural controversies.] Both LAR-A and LAR-B occupy disturbed habitats in southern Texas and adjacent Mexico and typically coexist with the gonochoristic species C. gularis (Walker, 1987a, 1987b). The three forms are similar in size and daily and seasonal activity periods and are easily observed in the field.
