Description
Much information exists on age-class differences in the diet of lizards (eg Davis, 1967; Schoener and Gorman, 1968; Simon, 1976; Judd, 1976). Generally, lizards that differ in size also differ in the types or sizes of prey they consume (Kennedy, 1956; Simon, 1976) though this is not always the case (Floyd and Jenssen, 1983). Most of the previous work was done on iguanid lizards, which are territorial and employ a" sit-and-wait" ambush strategy to capture prey (Stamps, 1977). Less is known about the intraspecific differences in diet of non-territorial," widely foraging" lizards. The six-lined racerunner, Cnemidophorus sexlineatus, typifies this behavioral strategy; it does not defend a territory and wanders over a large area in its search of prey (Hardy, 1962; Stamps, 1977).
