Description
Just after midnight on August 19, 2011, a young woman named Chloe used the microblogging service Twitter to share ambivalent feelings about the big move that would take place the next day. She wrote, “Leaving bright and early in the morning. Been waiting forever for this day, can’t believe it’s fi nally here. Gonna miss everyone.” The next day Chloe drove to the very large metropolitan research university campus where she would spend the next several years. By that time, her emotions had changed, but her chosen media for expressing them had not. On pulling into the loading zone in front of her new dorm, she tweeted, “I’m here!!!!” Before the night ended, she had posted a picture of her newly decorated dorm on the social networking site, Facebook, with the caption “dorm life.” Several friends and family members congratulated her by “liking” or commenting on her message.
