Description
In this study, land use/land cover (LU/LC) changes and impacts of changes on coastal zone were investigated in the example of Burnaz coastal dunes. The LU/LC changes between 1972 and 2000 were determined using aerial photos and satellite images. The land cover types and coverage in 1972 was delineated by using digitized monoscopic, black-white aerial photographs the current land cover statistics were derived from supervised classification of Landsat ETM+ imagery acquired in 2000. Maximum Likelihood classifier was used to produce land cover map. Coastal sand dunes, dune vegetation and agricultural areas increased by 67%, 85%, 12% respectively whereas bulrush coverage decreased 57% between 1972 and 2000. There is a significant increase in the areal extent of summer resorts which is as large as 10 times.
