0002 Modern mobile devices such as smartphones and tablets enable a variety of services that can be provided to users on the go. For example, because the geographic location of a mobile device can be determined using any of several technologies, location-based services can be provided to that mobile device (where users authorize the mobile device and/or the location-based service to access the geographic loca tion of the mobile device). First-generation location-based services can include services to identify a location of a person or object, such as discovering the nearest automatic teller machine (ATM) or the current location of a contact. Such services can also include mobile commerce services such as location-based coupons or advertising.
