Feminism, as defined by Barbara Smith (Smith and Smith 1981), refers to the eradication of all systems of inequality. 2 To its detriment, the sociology of gender is not necessarily informed by feminist theory. This is because its primary focus has been on differences, including identities and categories, and not necessarily on inequality (West and Fenstermaker 1995). This absence is pronounced in certain areas of transnational sociology, a nascent field that examines social processes across borders. Sociological studies on gender and transnationalism, while few, fall underfive lines of inquiry. Theyfirst examine the formation of transnational coalitions that underscore women’s common grievances across nations (Brooks 2007; Youssef 2022; Blackwell 2023); second, they analyze the circulation of ideologies (Patil 2022); third, they investigate the effects of economic globalization on women’s lives in the global South …
