Description
The lack of information during travel on the road, particularly about the state of the traffic, is a regular subject of displeasure. Mass diffusion of positioning modules in vehicles is about to revolutionize “telematics”. The chapter addresses the question: how will GNSS change systems and uses. It presents the technical context in which “global positioning system (GPS)” began ‐ GPS taken as a generic name for a localization tool, connected to a map and able to communicate. The chapter highlights the consequences of changes that have occurred through mathematical modeling. It shows a few technological realizations, perhaps revealing some future possibilities before finishing with some perspectives on this rapidly evolving domain.
