However, simply relegating wall insulation down the list of potential energy retrofit measures provides little useful guidance in cases where wall insulation is deemed a necessary and cost-effective way to achieve the desired energy performance target. In today’s world of increasingly ambitious energy performance targets, such cases may well become more common. Recognizing this, many governmental bodies and nongovernmental preservation organizations have recently produced more specific guidance on wall insulation retrofits, and several large collaborative projects, such as the RIBuild project and IEA SHC Task 59, are currently working to develop internal wall insulation retrofit solutions for historic buildings. 6
