Description
Everyday trip is essential for integration into society and for independence. The task of wayfinding is the process of determining and following a path between an origin and a destination. People with intellectual disabilities have difficulties in this task: fear of getting lost, difficulties in learning routes, in memorizing relevant landmarks, difficulty in questioning others to help them. Some of these people have expressed the desire to be more autonomous in their movements. This paper proposes to analyze two trip contexts as well as the design of navigation aids dedicated to people with intellectual disabilities, specific for each of these contexts. In order to address these important problems encountered by people with disabilities, two contexts are particularly highlighted: the monitoring of an already known route and the step-by-step guided learning of routes with selection of relevant landmarks.
