Description
We wish to advance evidence‐informed communication and participation – but what do we mean by interventions for communication and participation? An intervention for communication and participation is defined as a purposeful, planned and formalised strategy associated with a diverse range of intentions or aims. These are to inform, educate, communicate with, support, skill, change behaviour, engage or seek participation of people in all spheres of health – from individual to collective contexts.
Acknowledging that communication is multi‐directional in nature also influences the approach to communication interventions and recognises the centrality of consumers and carers in healthcare.
A case study of communication for safe medicine use provides a practical demonstration of how to expand our notions of communication and participation through the construction of a new taxonomy of interventions. Finally …
