Description
The primary objective of the present work is to explore the capabilities of Wire ECM process in machining stainless steel and copper. It is also intended to explore the ability of this process in cutting complex 3D features in the metal component. In order to obtain different slit samples and 3D features, a Wire ECM setup is fabricated. The fixture for work piece is enabled with motion along X, Y axes and 360 degree rotation about Y axis. The linear and rotational motions of the work piece are controlled by DC stepper motors which are interfaced with computer using Arduino Uno Microcontroller. In order to achieve effective flushing of electrolysis products from inter electrode gap, axial flushing of electrolyte is employed in the setup. The electrolyte flows circumferentially to the wire tool and is supplied to the nozzle by an air pressurized electrolyte tank. Copper wire tools of different diameter are used in the setup.
