Description
As its name implies, the Computer Supported Intentional Learning Environments (CSILE) project was aimed at using computer technology in supporting intentional learning by students. Intentional learning was originally conceived as an individual phenomenon, involving students investing effort in learning, over and above the effort they invest in immediate school tasks (Bereiter and Scardamalia 1989). Other terms that refer to roughly the same phenomenon are self-regulated learning (Zimmerman 1989) and autonomous learning (Thomas and Rohwer 1986). The unifying idea is that students differ consider ably in the extent to which they actively and strategically pursue learning as a goal, and this has significant consequences for their educational development."
